Each student is unique!

All our students come from different backgrounds, each with their own experience and a reason to learn.

Some only wish to brush up their language for an exam, some want to learn more specific vocabulary for work purposes, some want to learn a few expressions to get by on holidays, some are very keen to become fluent and gain a deeper understanding of the culture as well as the language of the other country.

We welcome all!

Adults

Adults may feel awkward or shy when they have to do activities in a foreign language and sometimes worry that they may not succeed. Some of our keenest and most fluent students came to us saying: ‘I’m very bad at languages. I’ll never learn’. Well, we proved them wrong!

We believe that if you can speak one language, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to speak two; and if you can pronounce one word in a foreign language, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to pronounce 5,000 more, a number of words that, incidentally, would make you a pretty fluent speaker! Speed and depth of learning depend on various factors, among which definitely: exposure time to that language, need to use it, motivation and time available to study.

We strive to create a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere in lessons, working with small numbers, so that everyone feels comfortable and free to learn.

“Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things”. – Flora Lewis (American Journalist, International Affairs)

Children

Children usually are not afraid of learning a foreign language because they ‘re used to switching roles and creating anything with their imagination; so learning a foreign language is just like playing a new game. And it is through play (with songs, cretive activties, movement etc.) that we teach them.

Researchers have confirmed that the best time to assimilate a new language is from 2 to 10 years old, even though more recent findings coming from Boston College, MIT and Harvard suggest that such period in fact extends to the age of 18. After that time, we appear to use a different part of our brains which makes us learn more rationally than instictively.

Children absorb and perfectly pronounce new sounds effortlessly. What is learnt joyfully at a very young age remain wth us, even after many years…
